For a girl who’s been through hell and back and probably doesn’t remember the half of it, hopefully not the worst of it, she holds herself together well.

I don’t even know her but I’m honestly happier than a pig in shit. Aimee’s riding behind me, just how I imagined. Her arms snaked underneath mine, palms pressed securely to my chest, her cheek laying against my shoulder. It’s fuckin’ perfect weather. I don’t know how the night will end, but for the moment, I’m all in. Totally at peace in this woman’s presence.

I take her out of the woods, through town, and back to my place. First thing she needs is water. Aimee chugs half the bottle I give her in one gulp. She asks to take a shower next, and I set out one of my softest T-shirts for her to change into.

I’d love nothing more than to keep her here, but I’m not sure that’s the best idea. Maybe she needs immediate medical attention—if not for physical injuries, for emotional ones. Maybe she’d like to file a police report. Maybe she just wants to go home.

Fuck if I know or would like to guess.

Aimee freshens up very nice. Too nice. She steps into the living room wearing only my rock-and-roll T-shirt. It covers her well enough not to be overly vulgar. But something about just seeing her in my shirt makes me want to pull her close and take it off. She’s got soft curves in all the right places. Wide hips and a juicy apple ass. She’s got braids in her hair that reach her mid-back.

I present her with options, she says no to all of the above. I ask if she’d like to go to the club house, or stay here with me. Her only two choices left. At the club house there’ll be lots of other people, no one I wouldn’t trust alone with her, and some of them may be better equipped to nurse her injuries than I am.

A smiling, clean, hydrated Aimee tells me she’d like to stay right here, with me.

She’s not ready to go to bed, so I put on some coffee and we stay up together. “I get insomnia too sometimes,” I comment, as I hand her a steaming hot mug.

“It’s not that,” Aimee says.

“Tell me.”

“Lately, whenever I fall asleep, I wake up.”

I crack a smile. “Means you’re alive. That’s a good thing, right?”

“Not when you’re being held against your will in your real life,” Aimee says. I try not to let my gaze rove her injuries too intently, like the bruises on her cheekbone and chin, and the fresh scrapes against her knees.

“Jesus, I’m sorry. I’m bad at this. Do you need some ice, babe? Bandages?”

“No. I’m okay.” She takes a sip of coffee, closing her eyes to really enjoy it. “Mmm. I haven’t had coffee in… days.”

“That had to be rough.”

Aimee looks at me sidelong, smiling with the most innocent-looking eyes. “Yeah. That was rough,” she says, lightheartedly.

God she’s charming.
